About me
Hi and thanks for visiting my Biography page
My name is Steve Manning and I am a photographer based in the South of England
Photography has become a huge part of my life – even that 3.00am alarm call in the summer fills me with excitement as to what images I may be able capture that no one else will have (an early misty morning in the New Forest is very hard to beat)
I am a huge fan of visiting locations numerous times to catch different light and conditions – each visit and each season brings new opportunities to capture an amazing picture which will last a lifetime
You will normally find me out and about taking photos in Norfolk / Suffolk / Essex / Sussex / Hampshire and Dorset. Although I do also enjoy travelling throughout England / Scotland and Wales and occasionally further afield
My favourite genre of photography is seascapes – nothing beats that mid-winter storm on the beach in Newhaven or Cornwall getting wet and cold and being lashed by the gales but being rewarded with some amazing shots of the waves is just an incredible feeling (and the coffee afterwards always tastes better!)
I also love landscapes and wildlife photography and experimenting with long exposures
I started my photography journey many many years ago but took up ‘proper photography’ in 2018 when I purchased a Canon 800D with a stock lens. This was a fantastic camera but I soon upgraded and have always used Canon cameras and lenses with occasional Sigma lenses
I am currently using a Canon 5DS R (yup, old school but I love it) along with a mirrorless R6 Mark 11 and will be joining the mirrorless club full time with an R5 or similar shortly. I shoot with various lenses from 50mm – 600mm F4 / F2.8 and extenders for wildlife
I am inspired by many photographers but especially Jack Lodge from Dorset who has inspired me to take my photography to many new levels
I am also inspired by the likes of Andy Farrer and Nigel Danson and Rachel Talibart and Thomas Heaton and Oliver Howell
Generally, anyone who gets out there and takes photos is an inspiration to me
Many thanks for reading my bio and please look through my portfolio or social media pages where I update as regularly as possible with new images and blogs of various trips – I appreciate all comments
